Background information

It encourages pronouncements about the strengths and weaknesses of Dutch design cultures. The prize is accompanies by publications with varied perspectives on the background to and development of Dutch design. The prize draws attention to new tendencies and provides a broad context for what can sometimes seem like a certain fragmentation within the work of certain designers.

structure

The structure of the prize has remained virtually unchanged in fifteen years. A Dutch committee will select around ten designers or design practices from the submissions. Their work will be exhibited publicly and an international jury will select the winner during the exhibition. There are no restrictions on how the € 15,000 cash prize may be spent.

The nominees will be presented in an exhibition at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. By combining varied ‘positions’ in a single display, the exhibition will reveal both the common ground and the polarities
